Pathogens – at a Glance
are agents that cause disease and are commonly known as bacteria,
viruses, fungi or molds.
They cause disease in plants and animals by impacting the physiology of
the host. Although there have been advances in safeguarding against
human infection by pathogens via vaccinations, antibiotics and
fungicides, progress on the botanical, food and industrial side, has
been more challenging.
The Challenge - Identifying Pathogens Quickly
for pathogens is challenging because the current technology that is
used in today’s test – plate count using Petri dish – takes 5-7 days
before analysis. Newer genetic based technology, such as Real- time PCR,
reduces the test time, but increases the capital cost significantly and
requires highly skilled labor. These newer methods still require a lot
of upfront sample prep effort before administering the test.
Our Technology & Products
has developed a microarray based test specifically designed for the
cannabis, botanical, food and agricultural testing markets. Our
technology allows test labs to conduct between 12- 48 tests in parallel,
testing up to 20 pathogens per test in less than a days’ shift. This is
done at a fraction of the cost of plate counts or Realtime PCR. Our Raw
Sample technology allows laboratories to bypass almost 20 steps that
Real-time PCR must perform for DNA extraction and purification.
PathogenDx technology bypasses the need for purification, quantitation,
and normalization increasing the speed and affordability of pathogen
screening. This helps our customers reduce testing time by 12 hours on
the front end, and avoid spending money on sample prep kits and
