PathogenDx Technology: Simple, Powerful, Inexpensive Microbial Testing.
PathogenDx has developed the next generation of very large-scale DNA based microbial testing for: cannabis, botanicals, food and agricultural products and water testing:
PDx - Cannabis (PDx-C) detects, on cannabis products, pathogens that are harmful to humans
PDx Environmental Screening (PDx-ES) detects, at the grow and in the subsequent supply chain, pathogens that are harmful to humans and plants.
Both products have been developed by PathogenDx, by combining two classes of microarray-related technology which it has invented (patents pending)
I. Microarray Analysis without Prior Microbial Enrichment or DNA Purification:
The first arm of the PathogenDx technology platform
This suite of proprietary methods allows raw samples – whether leaf and produce washes (or swabs) or leaf and produce homogenates to be analyzed at the DNA level in a way that allows detection, identification and quantification of multiple
pathogens in parallel, without DNA purification, DNA quantitation or DNA quality analysis. This technology thus enables the following:
Reduction in Turn-Around Time - Eliminates the need for hours of microbial culture prior to DNA based testing
Reduction in Cost - Removes the significant labor and kit costs associated with culture enrichment and DNA cleanup
Minimize sample dilution – Maximizes the amount of each pathogen being delivered for analysis per gram of sample.
Remove Culture-Based Sampling Bias –Pathogens can be analyzed without prior overnight culture-based enrichment: which is known to skew testing results, because the growth of some pathogens in a mix may be favored at the expense
II. Low-Cost Microarray Design and Manufacture (LCM)
The second arm of the PathogenDx technology platform
LCM is based on proprietary PDx know-how and IP: with patents pending in the US and internationally. LCM enables:
Radical Cost Reduction - Allows very-low-cost microarray manufacture for pathogen analysis
Simple lab processing when using the arrays - requiring minimal specialized equipment or technician expertise
Detection of multiple pathogens and multiple controls in one microarray test – One microarray = 144 qPCR assays
The microarray test format shown is the PDx standard for all of its products:12 microarrays positioned on a single 1’x3” glass slide. PDx microarray tests can also be produced in a format with 24 or 48 (smaller) microarrays also positioned on
a single 1”x3” glass slide. That simple but extremely powerful microarray format allows labs across the world to perform 12, 24 or 48 microarray tests in parallel, while analyzing dozens of pathogens simultaneously in each test: all as a routine bench-scale process that can be easily deployed by hand (with minimal specialized equipment) or when needed, scaled- up to high throughput with off-the-shelf fluid handling automation
